Protect Your Child from Obesity
11.23.06 (8:42 am)   [edit]

Children spend huge amounts of their free time, sleeping, watching TV, playing video games and surfing the internet. In such a scenario, childhood obesity is a major cause of concern as it is a major risk factor for disease such as diabetes, hypertension and elevated blood cholestrol. It also tends to lead to adult obesity and overweight adolescents may suffer long-term social discrimination.
With the risks associated with childhood obesity it is necessary to redirect children's energies towards physical activity. Benefits include:
- Reduction in the risk associated with childhood obesity
- Helping children build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints
- Teaching them the skills needed for social interaction
- Helping them learn to problem solve, as issues may arise while playing
- Reducing feelings of depression and anxiety
- Enhancing a child's self-esteem by helping increase the level of confidence, assertiveness, emotional stability, independence, and self control.
Research done on the brain suggest that what makes us move is also what makes us think. Physical activity builds the framework for cognition and brain development which increases the capacity to learn, and assist in the development and refinement of perceptual abilities involving vision and balance.

My nephew (5 yrs) used to spend a lot of time for seeing the cartoons. He didn’t pay attention to study . My family was very worried about him . We talked with him about this very much until he understood us. After that he is getting better, pay attention to study very much & play sports more than seeing the cartoons.

No wonder why children in the country side are healthier than children in the city (here) Because they're poor, don't even have a telly at home, so they spend most of the time playing together, running in the large field, which is a good way to exercise. They don't have Mc donald, just eat anything any veggie they could find to cook. Well, I can see where I'm gonna be when I have my own child haha :op

Have a wonderful weekend, whisper :)

Baically it is not children's problem, it is the parents problem, they want them to study whn they should to play outside, so after study they can't play as nobody is outside to play with thm, so thy take their gamming console, or watch T.V eating up junk, parents should understand the importance of playing outdoor games, it not only makes them physically fit but mentally active

Very true SP, I keep trying to adjust their timings but with them it never seems to work :)
