Hmmm. Seems to me I did MOST of those things for MOST of the 24 years I was married. Sounds like I needed to to ALL of them All the time.

Ah well, live and learn.

So incredibly pleased in my own marriage, I'm often mystified by the matter of managing to select the parther who'll go the distance. Perhaps we *much* more conversation on how to pick marriage partners than we do!

Then there's the matter of recent hoopla over "defense of marriage" meaning (outlaw GLBT unions.) I'm so proud of New Jersey for it's recent ruling.

"It is easier to divorce my wife of 26 years than to fire someone I hired one week ago. The person I hire has more legal clout .... than my wife of 26 years. That's wrong."
--Judge Randall Hekman,
President of the Mighigan Family Forum,
quoted in a Michael McManus column in the Detroit News

whisper! I used to hear some one told this
1st year of married, the man speaks & woman listens.
In 2nd year, the woman speaks & man listens.
In 3rd year, they both speak & the neighbours listen. :) Apple

I checked the list and that's why Sam and I were together for almost 30 years! I doubt that I will ever find that again...but damn, I am beginning to think I will try. : )

there are thousands of minor things to which we dont pay any attention, may it be husband or wife. We only realize many of them when we read about them. at least i am experiencing the same right now. Honestly speaking, i lack 7,8,9 and 10.

how do we get to Carnagie Hall...Practice, practice, practice! (at least, this is what I tell my daughter all the time, for her recovery, anyway) Being kind (to ourselves and others) is a fine tuned habit, just like any other...we leave behind bad behavious that we witnessed from our up-bringing and make a mental note and then practice.

marriage rules definitely need to be attended around the globe. i dont know what UNO is doing for that. But to me marriage remains beyond any rules, either it works or it does not , you rightly used the word ".
HOOPLA". To me its continuous effort to make the relation work, first for yourself, then for the partner and next for kids. It gets better and better if all 3 forces work together.

Age and wedlock tame even a wildest man

except for brief period after they turn 50 and go a little crazy wondering if they've let something escape them... lol

I am so relieved to hear that you are lacking some of these yourself, Whisper. I am definitely lacking 7 & 8. It's not that I don't want to, it's just that the longer we're married, the less we question each other regarding these things. I feel kind of sad about that. Sometimes we treat our spouses as we would a sibling - which is wrong given that I would NEVER say to a good friend half the stuff I dump on a sibling/husband. Poor guy... heck, poor me as well ;)

thats how it goes. i think we need to do a lot more than we do. life can be much better if we pay attention to small little things. :)

I can't say I follow all these, would be good probably if I did, lol. But I am open to it and thanks for the reminder...now I need to go let my hubby know how much I appreciate him :)

i think we all need to go to our spouses and tell them afresh how much we love and care :), i am so poor at it. I hardly notice changes and hardly appreciate her efforts to make our home a much better place.
